Huge portions and very authentic German dishes.
Feels like a regular German restaurant in the heart of the upper east side.
Got the pork shank, veal schnitzel the traditional schnitzel for main. Apps we had the potato pancakes, hearing and baked Camembert.
Desert was great too. Will come again

Service was poor even though it wasnt busy. We ordered a beef dish and i swear it was cat food covered in gravy. Even the mash potatoe ( golf ball portion) was underwhelming and cold.

Airline food is better. Wtf happened ?

    My stomach is hurting.
And I know it's from the food I had here because NEWSFLASH! I only had oatmeal during the day and toast for lunch before having my FIRST real meal of the day here.

I watched a couple fruit flies whizzing in and out of the darkly lit space of this Gotham style, archaic German cabin of a restaurant. You will feel like you've entered an actual pub in Berlin, or a cabin in the hillsides of Germany where wild roosters run around in your backyard with no one to complain of it (yes, oddly specific because my good friend in Germany is quite exactly that).

My meal took surprising long to prepare, compared to its ovbious appearance of it suggesting otherwise. I would assume sauerkraut and potato salad gets prepared in bulk during the day, yeah? And the two fat sausage links for $22, that's social suicide considering how Grey's Papaya sausage links have a nicer snap when you bite into casing.

I wouldn't say I'm cheap, though. I'll indulge in a proper appetizer, entree, and dessert with a nice grigio at Balthazar's when I'm in the mood for it. The waitress loves to prance around back and forth in the most ridiculous looking outfit that I suppose is uniform: she looks like a cross of Pippi Longstocking and those raggedy Anne dolls. I feel so bad she has to wear that all day.

She missed my glass for water twice? Like first time, I'll overlook it. But a second time? Eh, my tip amount will always reflect your performance. In my probably dickish opinion, servers won't know what they're doing wrong unless you do this. I'm not going to articulate what you did wrong bc you're a grown woman/adult and will leave it to you to assess why you received what you got. Okay, so not coming back!!

Feels like a real German restaurant in the middle of the UES. Food is pretty delicious and authentic. The menu has a wide variety of draft beers local and imported as well wine.

I just think you should NOT go during/after the Steuben German-American parade as it's pretty packed and, if you seated for a meal, the options for drinks are really limited. Their excuse was that the bar is too packed to be reached, so they open an extra side bar with some beer and wine on a side. Lame. Organized yourself to get us what it's on the menu! My friend really wanted to try a German special wine and she had to dine with a banal Pinot Grigio.. I wanted to try a Paulaner, and I had to drink an Octoberfest beer.

Anyhow, me and my friends had a good meal, and we were seated just 10 minutes after we arrived, right after the parade.

I truly enjoyed the food. Service was a little slow!  Atmosphere was ok. Sat outside.

Ordered Jagerschitzel ... wow. Spatzle, red cabbage...yum. A very nice gravy!  Also ordered sauerkraut and loved it!  Caraway in it was nice and subtle. I could have ate so much more!

The menu offerings were traditional and would have like to try more!

    They have German beers.

Finished with Black Forest cake. Nice traditional style with sour cherries etc. enjoyed it!

    I would definitely return.
